[LGBTQIA+ caravan]

The project aims to organize community and educational events for non-LGBTQIA+ organizations to raise awareness and promote equal rights in Romanian counties where there is no formal LGBTQIA+ representation.

By mapping student and civic organizations in these areas and tailoring activities to local needs, the project seeks to create safe and inclusive spaces for the queer community, addressing topics such as LGBTQIA+ myths, the political and legal context, and the promotion of solidarity.

[what do we aim to achieve?]

Let’s raise awareness and combat stereotypes about the LGBTQIA+ community by organizing events and educational workshops in counties without formal representation.

To promote inclusion and solidarity by creating safe spaces and tailoring activities to local needs and specificities in at least five selected locations.

[edu platform]

More than just an LGBTQIA+-friendly environment, there is a need for professionals trained to work with the community.

The platform represents a first step, providing information that does not replace formal training and professional development but rather complements medical knowledge with specific data to support healthcare professionals in their work with LGBTQIA+ clients and patients.

‼️ The courses on the platform are free. However, each course requires a separate registration, which you will receive via email (make sure to check your spam folder as well).

[what have we accomplished so far?]

Results achieved

We have organized promising meetings in Deva and Sibiu, which have led to commitments for future collaborations. In Sibiu, we reconnected with a youth organization interested in incorporating LGBTQIA+ activities into their program next year. This collaboration offers us the opportunity to contribute to diversifying and expanding their initiatives, with the main goal of increasing awareness and inclusion.

Lessons learned

We realized that the landscape of civil society organizations in Reșița is quite limited. The Volunteer Center, with which we have been in contact since 2020, is currently focused on creative activities (arts and crafts) for young mothers. This audience does not align with the needs of an educational and awareness-raising LGBTQIA+ project at this time. We will stay in touch with them and explore collaboration opportunities in the future when their focus aligns more closely with our goals.

This project is financially supported by The Embassy of the Netherlands.
