Community online Brunch

How can you bring the LGBTQI+ community together, during a pandemic? You could organize an online community brunch. It may sound difficult, but on 9th of May we held our second one during quarantine. And we all know that people like to eat and drink, right?

That is why, together with the cook Noemi Hugel, we took the participants on a culinary trip to the Middle East. Even if we were not all so great at cooking, Noemi was ready to answer all our questions and to guide us throughout the whole process. We watched her cook and we tried to recreate the delicious dishes. From shakshouka and caramelized bananas to spring tonic, we learned some cooking tricks, and the most important thing, we shared stories and talked about our time at home. Even if some of us did not have all the ingredients, Noemi told us what we can do to create our own recipe. It was a nice time for the local community and friends to meet again and talk about how we feel. And we even had friends which were attending from outside of Romania.

In other words, we learned a bit how to spoil ourselves in isolation. And if you want to see and taste and smell how this is, you can find below the necessary ingredients for the meals we created. Give them a try and surprise yourself and others with what you can do!

Shakshouka with grilled bread and herb butter (for 1 person):
1 bell pepper, 1 onion, 1 cup of tomato juice/can, salt, pepper, cumin, smoked paprika (optional), sugar, olive oil, 3 eggs; 100gr of butter, greens (garlic, parsley, dill, wild garlic, rosemary, whatever you like and can find), 2 slices of good bread.

Coconut pudding with caramelized bananas:
200ml coconut milk, 1 banana, 1 spoon of starch, vanilla.

Spring Tonic:
20ml gin, tonic/sparkling water, 1 lemon, 1 lime, 1 strawberry.

Stove, 2 pans (one should have a lid), 1 medium or small sized pot, knives, wooden spoon, chopper.
